Mike Liu
My name is Mike Liu. I come from Hunan Province, China, and I hold a B.Eng. in environmental engineering from Tsinghua University. A second bachelor’s degree in economics added to my interdisciplinary perspective and gave me a better understanding of the connection of the physical environment with the socioeconomic system.
Prior to my arrival at the Yale School of the Environment, I spent 6 months on my internship in the World Resources Institute(WRI) China Office, focusing on green electricity trading and scope 3 supply chain emissions. I also had my internship at the National Key Laboratory of Institute of Environmental Planning in the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, China, working on the construction of environmental information platform providing ecological, environmental and energy data.
Here at YSE, I am in the joint degree program with Tsinghua University and engage in the Energy and the Environment specialization, focusing my studies and research on energy transition and decarbonization pathways, more specifically, the socioeconomic impacts of negative emission technologies development on China. For my summer experience, I am planning to work in the Philadelphia Green Capital Corp, which mainly focuses on fundraising to support regional renewable energy .
I expect to receive a Master of Environmental Management in May 2025 and plan to work as an administrator in the field of energy in private sectors with a focus on renewable energy and energy transition. I hope with the knowledge and professional skills from my education and my enthusiasm in this field, I can figure out solutions for the exisiting issues in the energy field and really make a difference.
