About Philadelphia Green Capital Corp. (PGCC) 

The Philadelphia Green Capital Corp (PGCC) is the non-profit “green bank” affiliate of the Philadelphia Energy Authority that aims to grow the clean energy economy in the Philadelphia region. PGCC offers low-cost financing options for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and develops programs that remove systemic barriers to clean energy financing. 

The Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) is an independent municipal authority focused on energy affordability and sustainability issues in Philadelphia. In 2016, PEA launched the Philadelphia Energy Campaign, a $1 billion, 10-year investment in energy efficiency and clean energy projects to create 10,000 jobs, and to build a robust, equitable clean energy economy in Philadelphia. To date, PEA and PGCC together have supported over $380 million in projects and created over 3,275 jobs.

The Summer 2024 Yale Planetary Solutions in Clean Energy Intern will focus on market research, pipeline development and outreach, and program analysis in support of driving a robust, equitable clean energy market in Southeast Pennsylvania. Most of the Intern’s time will be spent supporting PGCC’s new programs, including the expansion of its low-income solar access program into southeast PA and early-stage partnership development with local lenders.

The opportunity:

Under the supervision of PGCC’s Senior Associate, the Summer 2024 Yale Planetary Solutions in Clean Energy Intern will support PGCC's continued growth as the green bank serving the Philadelphia region. The Summer 2024 Yale Planetary Solutions in Clean Energy Intern will focus on program development and management, particularly with respect to the Solar For All program, pipeline development, and stakeholder engagement to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency and renewable energy in the Philadelphia region. The exact scope of work will be designed to complement the intern’s existing skills and desired learning experiences.

 

Tasks May Include a Combination of the Following: 

Perform financial & sensitivity analyses in support of new product(s) to generate long-term program forecasts and evaluate risk, prepare detailed memos, and present findings to the Executive Director

Create a marketing strategy and support partnership development for expanding low-income solar access through Solar For All program 

Support pitch material development and participate in fundraising applications 

Lead special projects that support the development of new program development, which could include creating research briefs on potential investment opportunities for PGCC, identifying key partnerships, and evaluating policy & market trends to inform strategic planning

Background and skills required

A self-starter with strong problem-solving and communication skills

Demonstrated interest in energy, sustainability, climate change, impact investing, affordable housing, finance, and/or other relevant topics

Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: financial modeling, program or product development, data analytics, public policy & research, project and/or non-profit management

Ability to manage simultaneous projects/work streams, set priorities, and exercise independent judgment

 

The following past experience(s) would be advantageous:

  • Experience in energy and/or finance project development
  • Experience in a company that is active in projects related to energy
  • Experience in a start-up, non-profit, or entrepreneurial environment

Location:

Hybrid (Office located at 1400 JFK Blvd., Philadelphia, PA, 19107 - Philadelphia City Hall); Applicants are encouraged to be in the Philadelphia region this summer for some/all of the internship to be able to work in-person at least 3 days per week.

Timing:

10 weeks in June - August 2024 (Summer 2024, dates to be finalized based on intern’s academic calendar with preference through August 16th), 40 hrs/wk
