Designed to Thrive – Social and Ecological Urbanism with Purpose

Jonathan F.P. Rose (Jonathan Rose Companies) and Thomas Murphy (former mayor of Pittsburgh, PA) discuss how transforming distressed communities and development of affordable and green housing creates immeasurable benefit and opportunity for urban communities.

Led by Laura Barraclough, Assistant Professor of American Studies at Yale University, the conversation will center around:

  • Exploring systems thinking around cities
  • Identifying, understanding and designing to optimize development around a city’s specific purpose
  • How history and culture play a role in determining the future trajectory of an urban area
  • How we make cities more resilient and compassionate places to live and work

This event is co-sponsored by the Hixon Center for Urban Ecology
