The Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance (YISF) is a leading forum for the convening of scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss today’s most important challenges in the field of sustainable investing and finance. We are pleased to announce our annual Symposium to be held in November 2024 at the Yale School of Management. We are issuing this Call for Papers to scholars and practitioners from all areas of ESG screening and sustainable finance – as foundation for the discussion at the November Symposium.

The theme of the 2024 YISF Symposium is:

Evolution of ESG investing in an increasingly complex financial system

ESG-screened investments operate in the context of multiple systems including financial regulations, market expectations, social norms, evolving technology and ethics. In 2024 YISF Symposium seeks papers that explore these systems. We are particularly interested in papers that investigate one or more of following topic areas:

  1. Regulation: ESG screening and financial regulations
  2. Technology: AI, technology, and sustainable investments
  3. Disclosure: Next generation of ESG reporting and metrics
  4. Ethics: Fiduciary duty and consideration of ESG analytics
  5. Market: ESG-screened portfolios and financial products
  6. Norms: Greenwashing and stakeholders

Contributions will generally take the form of an empirical research paper, literature review, or a position/opinion paper. Submitted abstracts will be considered through an editorial review process. Authors of accepted abstracts will be asked to produce full draft papers by July 31st and final conference papers by October 1st. All of those producing papers will be invited to present their findings at the annual YISF Symposium to be held November 1st, 2024, at the Yale School of Management. Papers presented at the Symposium will be published in the 2024 YISF Symposium proceedings – although publication in an academic journal is also an option.

Please submit abstracts of no more than 300 words to yisf@yale.edu. Abstracts should provide a clear picture of the thesis and contributions of the paper. Abstracts should be submitted by April 15th, 2024.

Practical Information:

  1. Submit abstract (300 words) for the Symposium by Monday, April 15th, 2024.
