The role also includes organizing and supporting special events, from live sessions to an annual in-person reunion, enhancing both professional and personal growth.
Position Focus:
- Supports the delivery of an online program in Clean and Equitable Energy Development. Role includes creating a flawless, enriching experience for participants, fostering network engagement with a bias towards action, and supporting cohesive and empathetic team management with the Clean Energy Faculty Director, CBEY’s Online Programs Director (OPD), and Online Programs Manager (OPM).
- Program Delivery and Operations duties include manage online courses delivery enriching the experience for ~160 clean energy professionals in two cohorts per year. Serve as the primary contact for online cohorts. Handle outbound communications, including weekly announcements and special event promotions, in the CBEY voice—both informed and whimsical. Perform quality control and testing of online modules before and after publishing, coordinating with TAs and Yale staff to resolve issues.
- Publish course material weekly, clarify unclear content, suggest additional readings, and fix platform cosmetic issues using CBEY processes. Document delivery processes for CBEY team use as requested by the OPM. Monitor online forums to ensure a rich and respectful experience, collaborating to promote discussions on course material and social activities.
- Plan, recruit, and deliver live sessions with faculty and guest experts weekly during program delivery, and support or organize other online events for cohorts. Support the design, coordination, and facilitation of special events like the annual in-person reunion, online orientation, and career-oriented and networking events. Oversee the selection, production, publishing, and use of assignments, impact stories, and learner feedback to elevate profiles, broaden program impact, and attract talent to Yale.
- Independent Research duties include conduct independent research on equity in clean energy project development in the U.S., creating a resource on equitable clean energy project design (challenges, opportunities, innovative solutions). Coordinate with faculty and energy experts to develop practical guidelines for assessing solar and wind projects through an equity lens (e.g., framework or self-guiding questions).
- Curriculum Redesign duties include utilize participant feedback and critically review the existing curriculum with course instructors to identify areas for updates, improvements, or redesign. Evaluate and design opportunities to integrate knowledge/skills from previous courses into subsequent ones, improving overall program implementation and impact. Work with CBEY staff and faculty to update content and exercises, ensure cohesion between courses, outline critical skills and knowledge outcomes, and develop metrics. Create and incorporate an Excel boot camp covering fundamentals of financial modeling for clean energy projects.
- Content Production Management duties include participate in faculty and expert outreach, coordinating curriculum development activities and video production with faculty and guest experts, and working with Yale Departments. Coordinate video production and editing with Yale teams, including commenting on and testing raw video material for editing by production teams. Produce course pages in our online learning management platform.
Principal Responsibilities:
- In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities.
- Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures.
- Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program.
- Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
- Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program.
- Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program.
- Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications.
- Develops and manages the program's operating budget.
- Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related and demonstrated experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MESc or MEM from the Yale School of the Environment or MBA from the Yale School of Management. Demonstrated experience with environmental studies and online learning at Yale. Conference planning and coordination.
Skills & Abilities:
- Significant proven experience with professional communications to a diverse group of individuals, including web-authoring.
- Ability to grasp quantitative and qualitative information in the clean energy sector and translate it into digestible information for a diverse audience.
- Significant proven experience coordinating work across departments and units, and across functions.
- Demonstrated experience and comfort managing live events with groups of working professionals. Ability to coordinate with staff from YSE and SOM to support administrative efforts such as recruiting, admissions, matriculation, alumni affairs, and other services.
- Ability to calmly manage occasionally large influx of queries related to the fulfilment of academic requirements. Support the recruitment and day-to-day supervision of student hires (e.g., teaching assistants, marketing support, summer internships).
