First Yale Team wins coveted spot in DOE Solar Decathlon competition

Driven by student commitment to innovation in sustainable architecture, Yale will field its first team in the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon competition. Led by Yale sophomores in the architecture program, Juan Pablo Ponce de Leon and Katherine McMillan, the team will be one of 20 to design and build a fully solar-powered home for exhibition in 2015. Being selected as one of the 20 teams is no small feat - the competition is stiff, with many of the best specialized graduate programs fighting for spots.  The Yale Center for Business and the Environment is a proud sponsor of Ponce de Leon and McMillan's work. We can't wait to see the finished project, and we'll post updates over the next two years as the students go through the process. Perhaps the house will even become coveted on-campus housing as past Solar Decathlon entries have at my alma mater, Middlebury.
