Executive Voices in Sustainability 2018:

Executive Voices in Sustainability: David Hoover

What brought you to Yale?

World class program that focuses on core leadership principles to build around its' curriculum. The goal of Yale to create a global program was also of great interest.

How have you impacted sustainable practices in your career?

I created and oversaw training programs that allowed for sustainable flight operations in our squadron. We had to strike a careful balance of maintenance operations, aircrew availability and training to ensure we would not burn out our resources.

What challenges do you see for sustainability in your industry?

In my current industry, the biggest challenge we face is being specialized enough to meet customers’ specific needs while having enough breadth to meet their ancillary needs. To sustain customer relationships long-term, we find ourselves over-reaching our capabilities at times, which can have damaging consequences. The root of our challenge is having a deep enough technical bench to sustain new services and products.

Tell us one thing about yourself that might surprise your classmates.

I am a licensed fixed wing and helicopter pilot.
