Dr. Amal-Lee is a passionate advocate for sustainable development. Her 20-year career spans Government, multilateral development bank, academia and the not for profit think-tank sectors. As Chief of the Climate Change Division at the Inter-American Development Bank, Amal-Lee leads a 60-person team for strengthening institutions, mobilizing finance and applying knowledge in support of Latin American and Caribbean countries implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Lead roles include designing the UK’s Green Investment Bank; developing the UK’s G8 and EU Presidency agendas on technology and finance; leading EU negotiations under the UNFCCC as well as high profile initiatives such as the Climate Investment Funds and a China Dialogue on Green Finance and Investment.

Amal-Lee’s PhD on policy and regulatory implications for scaling up investment in renewable energy in developing countries, with India and South Africa case studies has been central to her life work.
