Internship Opportunity: Partner Case Study and Data Systems Support

About the Honnold Foundation:

The Honnold Foundation (HF), established in 2012 by professional rock climber Alex Honnold, is committed to promoting equitable access to solar energy and supporting grassroots organizations worldwide. HF collaborates with community-based partners to enhance solar energy access, mitigate environmental impact, and improve lives through energy resilience, capacity building, and storytelling. We envision a world where renewable energy empowers underserved communities, reduces environmental footprints, and enhances resilience. To date, HF has impacted over 120 partners globally. We prioritize equity and inclusion and encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds. For further insights, refer to our latest Impact Report and our Strategic Plan.

Role Overview

This role encompasses two projects:

  1. Partner Case Studies: compile 1-2 short case studies highlighting select HF partners' projects, illustrating their success and lessons learned.
  2. Data & Systems Support: organize partner data and media assets, prepare datasets for databases, and support analysis and data integration.

The Intern will work closely with our Program team to develop case studies showcasing the work of select partners and to strengthen the Foundation’s partner data and media systems. Both projects support clear storytelling, improved data management, and informed decision-making across the organization.

As an Intern, you’ll play a critical role in capturing and analyzing the transformative impact of our partnerships. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both storytelling and sustainable development while using your experience in data management to help manage, assess, and improve data systems within a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interviews and Storytelling: Conduct interviews with partner organizations and beneficiaries to capture compelling stories and firsthand insights.
  • Case Study Development: Create clear, engaging, and visually compelling case studies that detail partner achievements, community impacts, and lessons learned.
  • Data & Systems Support: Assist with organizing partner documentation and media assets, preparing datasets for database integration, and supporting internal data management processes.
  • Feedback Loop: Share draft case studies and data summaries with partners, and incorporate feedback to ensure accuracy, clarity, and respectful representation.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a Master's student or equivalent with excellent research and analytical skills, particularly in organizing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data. The intern should be skilled at creating engaging narratives and stories. Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and comfort conducting interviews with diverse stakeholders are essential.

  • Experience working with data, databases, or data management systems
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse set of community partners and stakeholders

  • Experience with graphic design, photography, or video editing is preferred but not required
