Tuition, Payments & Discounts

Tuition & Payment Deadlines

Tuition for the 2026-2027 Yale Financing and Deploying Clean Energy certificate program is $10,800.

  • Tuition payment is due in two installments:
    • June 3, 2026 – Due date for enrollment and first tuition payment (at least 50% of total tuition due).
    • November 16, 2026 – Deadline to submit second tuition payment (remaining balance due).
  • July 6, 2026 is the last day to withdraw for a tuition refund, less $500.

There is no application fee or deposit. Should you be admitted to the program, reserving your seat requires paying the first tuition installment in full and signing the Intent to Enroll form.

Exceptions to the payment deadlines are made for participants that require special payment plans due to federal regulations (AmeriCorps, for instance). These special payment arrangements should be requested with CBEY.admissions@yale.edu as soon as possible, and before tuition payments are due.

Tuition Discounts

Please note because this is a non-degree, not-for-credit program, traditional financial aid, including grants and student loans, is not available. However, we encourage you to enquire with your employer whether training and professional development funds may be applied to finance this program. Here is a sample email to your employer to help get this discussion started

A small number of tuition discounts will be available, covering up to 20% of the tuition costs, for a handful of highly qualified, eligible candidates who apply for tuition discount consideration by the priority application deadline.  These discounts are limited and competitively awarded. To be considered for a tuition discount, applicants must complete a 300 word essay response to a prompt within the program application and submit their completed application by the priority deadline. Applicants will not be able to request tuition discount after submitting the application.

You will not be asked to provide information about your financial status. Because admissions and discount decisions are evaluated holistically, we suggest you pay special attention to all aspects of the application, particularly your CV/resume and the application essays, to help us get to know you, your motivations for applying, your ability to succeed and contribute to the program, and potential for impact.

You will be notified of any discounts awarded at the time of your admissions decision.

Three Cairns Fellows

Three Cairns Fellows, another opportunity provided through the Three Cairns Climate Program for the Global South, supports up to ten mid-career environmental professionals seeking to enroll in the Yale Financing and Deploying Clean Energy certificate program. Three Cairns Fellows will receive 100% tuition fee waiver. Three Cairns Fellows are from the Global South and demonstrate a commitment to tackling climate change in their home countries and/or throughout the Global South. In order to apply, on the FDCE application, you will indicate your interest in the Fellowship and complete the standard tuition discount essay. No additional essay or documentation is needed.

Other Important Policies

Deferral

An applicant admitted to the program, prior to the deadline for the first tuition installment, may request a deferral until the next academic year. No deposit is needed for deferral. Tuition will not be collected until the following year, and rates for the year of actual enrollment will apply. Deferrals after the first tuition payment will be granted only in extenuating circumstances. Deferrals are not granted after the first day of the core courses. In such cases, leaves of absence may be considered. If an applicant is granted a deferral, they will be asked to complete a new application to the program the following year. Once submitted, the applicant will be automatically accepted into the program. Scholarships, group discounts, or other special rates only apply the year in which they are awarded. To be considered for a scholarship the following year, a new scholarship application, if available, will need to be completed. Accepted applicants may defer their acceptance for one year maximum for guaranteed admission.

Withdrawal and Readmission

A participant may withdraw from the program for any reason with a full refund minus $500 by the specified deadline, or at any time thereafter without a refund of tuition payments made. A participant will be considered withdrawn from the program upon failing to complete timely tuition payments and/or failing to complete the requirements of a course in the program without taking a leave of absence. At such time, access to the course content will be revoked. This certificate is not for credit, and no partial credit will be awarded. Certificates of completion will only be provided to participants after the successful completion of all program requirements and timely payment in full of all tuition fees. Confirmation of enrollment or course completion will only be provided to participants in good financial and academic standing, including participants on approved leave. Withdrawing from the program does not guarantee readmission in a future year, nor can partial payments be refunded nor applied to future years or other programs.

Leaves of Absence

A participant may request a leave of absence for one or more courses. When taking a leave of absence, the participant will be asked to return the following year to re-attempt the course(s) with the next cohort. Because course content and course requirements change on an annual basis, the participant will be required to fulfill all of the course requirements of the new year, and will receive no credit for partially-completed courses from the prior year., though they can receive credit for all fully completed courses. A certificate of completion will be provided the May following the successful completion of all program requirements. Leaves of absence will not be extended beyond one year. Leaves of absence are conditional upon good financial standing with the program.

Remediation of Failing Grades

The program is a non-degree bearing program for which no transcripts nor final course grades will be delivered. Certificates of completion will only be provided to participants after the successful completion of all program requirements, and all courses are evaluated as pass or fail. Upon failing to complete requirements of a course, the participant may request to take a leave of absence and return the following year to re-attempt the course (see leaves of absence). Failure to complete course requirements by the specified course deadlines jeopardizes access to the course platforms, future courses, and will constitute a withdrawal from the program unless a leave of absence is awarded.
