Sustainable Mobility - Pitch Day!
Overview
Mobility of people and goods is one of the toughest environmental and social challenges of our time. It is at the heart of everything from education and health to trade. Creating a transport system that is able to minimize environmental and climate impacts while maximizing social benefits is a significant challenge, but one that will be vital to the trajectory of our planet.
Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) is the national Dutch train company, which operates passenger trains over the core railway network in the Netherlands. With over 1.2 million journeys made by train and bus each day, NS has a major impact on society in terms of mobility, safety and emissions among other areas. As such, they are working on the challenge of sustainable mobility and are seeking ideas for how to create, measure, and communicate long-term sustainable value for society in the Dutch rail sector to major stakeholders.
The Opportunity
To generate new ideas on what metrics can be employed to best capture the success of sustainable mobility efforts, NS’s director of corporate sustainability will be working with Yale to put on a case competition around the following question:
How might the Dutch rail sector create, measure, and communicate long-term sustainable value for society to major stakeholders?
