Professional Skills Workshops: Grant Applications 101

Talking about money is awkward. Asking for money can be worse. But grants are one of the best ways to get your ideas off the ground and into the world. Led by Katie Thatcher (grantwriter at the Alice Ferguson Foundation and grantwriter/grantmaker at EarthRights International), Hannah Stonebraker (grantwriter at Tebeka-Legal Advocacy for Ethopian Israelis and grant manager at International Women’s Media Foundation), and Emma Funk (Social Entrepreneurship Fellow at the Tsai Center for Innovation Thinking at Yale) this workshop will walk through how to write a great grant or award application: choosing the right grant to apply for, analyzing the description and criteria, and tailoring your writing to your audience. We’ll talk through best practices, and then walk through examples of common pitfalls. You’ll walk away with newfound confidence to go get that next award!
