Climate Change Entrepreneurship: Sarah Collins, CEO of Wonderbag

Sarah Collins is the South African-born founder and CEO of the Wonderbag, a non-electric, heat-retention cooker that has numerous co-benefits for health, the environment and society. The Wonderbag reduces fuel used for cooking by up to 80% and, in developing countries, where over 3 billion people still cook food over an open fire, the WonderBag reduces the need for collecting firewood, mitigating the

challenges of deforestation, indoor air-pollution, and the time and income spent on collecting firewood. The company incorporates a variety of innovative business models, including a “buy one, give one” model, data collection, carbon credits, and has various social impact divisions, including the Wonderbag Foundation, the Coalition for Action, and most recently, WonderImpact.

The Wonderbag has sold or subsidized more than 1 million bags across Africa, Middle East and North America, established partnerships with Unilever, Pfizer, Amazon, Dell, the Jane Goodall Foundation, and many others. Sarah was one of Top 10 2013 Forbes Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs, Fairlady Woman of the Future 2016, a keynote speaker at World Economic Forum in Davos, and a speaker at TedX in Cape Town.
