50 Years in the Amazon - How to Make Conservation Happen

Dr. Lovejoy will discuss the evolution of conservation in the Amazon since he first stepped foot in the region over 50 years ago, and describe strategies to finance and execute large-scale conservation.

Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, “the Godfather of Biodiversity," is unquestionably among the world's most prominent figures in environmental conservation. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the United Nations Foundation, a University Professor at George Mason University, and Senior Advisor to the Chair of the Scientific Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) for the Global Environment Facility (after serving as the chair for five years). A Yale College alumnus, he coined the phrase biological diversity, and developed the debt-for-nature swap framework for conservation.
