Business and Environment Summer Internship Presentations!

Join us for our first session as we hear from students about their summer internships at the intersection of business and the environment!  Interesting, informative, and often humorous, these talks give personal accounts of experiences and highlight the many possible career pathways for students engaged in the business/environment interface.

Lunch will be provided. Please register and arrive early, food is limited.

Internship descriptions:

  • Shannon worked for the MTA's Transit-Oriented Development group in the Real Estate Division. She was tasked with answering the question, how might the MTA facilitate and encourage the use of emerging mobility technologies and services (e.g. bikeshare, micro transit, etc.) to address the first-last mile problem? She was specifically looking at this question in the realm of the two commuter rails operated by the MTA, Metro-North and Long Island Railroad.
  • Harris started the E-waste Taskforce within the environmental program at the Responsible Business Alliance. The RBA is a member-funded electronics industry association, and members of the E-waste Taskforce include sustainability leads at Apple, Dell, Cisco, HP, IBM, Microsoft, and others. Harris' work involved coordinating e-waste and recycling policies across member companies and conducting research on e-waste to inform company strategies.
  • Alli worked on coordinating data collection for sustainability certification, updated and developed metrics for Bigelow's zero waste and other sustainability goals, and participated in Bigelow’s Green Team to create a monthly theme calendar of activities and social media opportunities. She also learned about how tea is grown and blended, planted and weeded in Bigelow's Community Garden, and, most importantly, discovered her favorite Bigelow Tea is Dandelion Peach.
