Rather than simply studying clean energy development, CEED participants work through the challenges of financing, siting, permitting, community engagement, and energy justice to design real-world solutions.
Tackling Challenges on the Ground: CEED Final Projects
At the end of each term, cohorts gather virtually to present their final projects, fully scoped clean energy proposals, each grounded in a real site, a real community need, and a real set of structural barriers to overcome.
The CEED Final Project is more than an academic exercise. Over eight weeks, teams work through the full project development lifecycle, integrating energy justice, market analysis, financial feasibility, community impact assessment, and technical design, and present their proposals to program faculties and teaching team.
Past projects have tackled energy access and demand challenges spanning small communities in Illinois and Alaska, resilience hubs in Connecticut and Puerto Rico, a green hydrogen facility on a former Superfund site in New Mexico, and solar projects reaching as far as Australia and Tanzania. Educating for Impact
The CEED Certificate Program strives for achieving equity in the social and economic participation in energy systems, while reducing and remedying social, economic, environmental, and health impacts on those disproportionately or potentially harmed by the way humans produce and consume energy.
Based on a collaborative approach, this program supports professionals that work in regions heavily reliant on oil, coal and natural gas to move towards a clean and equitable energy future.
The CEED program will provide those professionals with knowledge, frameworks, and skills that address the challenges they may encounter during the just energy transition process. Building relationships, networks, and connections are priorities for CEED participants in order to rethink and better develop clean, affordable, and equitable energy systems.
