Heather West graduated from the joint MBA/Master of Forestry program, interested in conservation finance, working lands management, and regenerative food systems. She spent one summer at Beartooth Capital Partners, a ranchland investment group, where she performed investment analysis and due diligence as part of the sourcing and acquisition efforts of the fund. The summer before, she interned at The Nature Conservancy in their Conservation Investment group developing a reverse auction program to allocate private capital to bird friendly management practices on rice lands along the Pacific Flyway.

Before moving East, she was living in the Bay Area working at the Bill Lane Center for the American West at Stanford University where she formed and managed undergraduate programs for the Center, while conducting research on water stewardship in the craft brewing industry. In addition, she led a team of faculty and graduate students in designing and teaching a new, one-month field seminar exploring western water issues for undergraduate students in the Colorado River Basin. Prior to her tenure at the Bill Lane Center, she worked at Suntech America Inc., a global solar module manufacturer, and interned at the Environmental Protection Agency in the pretreatment water group.

Heather graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Environmental History, and spent considerable time in the pool during her undergraduate years as a two time captain of the Stanford Women's Water Polo Team. She is a native of Davis, CA and enjoys exploring the Sierra, her home mountain range, and various other mountain landscapes across the West.
