Oscar Benjamin

MBA , 2017
Master of Environmental Management , 2017
Oscar is a third year joint degree candidate. He aims to create consumer products that are healthy for the people that use them, make them and the environment we all depend on. He is currently creating an Advanced Sustainability class to tackle wicked sustainability problems using business and environmental management skills.
During Oscar’s time at CBEY he worked with Dr. Todd Cort to define the credibility gap in sustainability reporting. Their research into the electronic hardware sector is unravelling the best and worst strategies for ambitious non-financial reporting on social and environmental issues.
Most recently Oscar interned in Hasbro’s US marketing team learning how to sell games to retailers. His projects involved designing e-commerce initiatives and planning media budgets for core games like Mousetrap. In the next 5 years he hopes to use marketing to make environmental consumer products more popular.
The summer of 2015 took Oscar to Herman Miller's West Michigan headquarters to improve their sustainability reporting practices. He also used this summer internship to conduct a cradle-to-cradle environmental assessment of Herman Miller's new office furniture line, Exclave.
Oscar previously worked in sustainability consulting and analysis in London. At the global consulting firm, Anthesis, he developed an Ecolabel for cleaning services with the European Commission; baselined the impact of UK food labels changes on consumers and business; and briefed retailers on sustainable laundry. Whilst coordinating the UK Dream initiative he realized making sustainability relevant to consumers’ primary concerns was key to achieving popular appeal.
Oscar graduated from the University of Oxford with B.A. in Geography specializing in climate change attribution and the sociology of international climate negotiations. In Oxford he developed a passion for rowing and long distance road cycling. His explorations of the Connecticut countryside continue with the Yale Cycling Club.
