Unlocking the Potential of Behavioral Energy Efficiency
Featuring Nate Srinvas, Marketing Manager on Residential Energy Efficiency

Blueprint for Efficiency - Opower--Unlocking The Potential of Behavioral Energy Efficiency 12-11-13, 12.03 PM from Ben Butterworth on Vimeo.

Shocks to the efficiency landscape, including the saturation and phase-out of CFL programs and falling electricity generation costs, mean that there are fewer programs available to deliver large-scale and cost-effective energy savings. As a result, utilities are increasingly turning to behavioral programs to supercharge their residential energy efficiency portfolios. Nate Srinivas shares an Opower study that assesses the state-by-state potential for behavioral interventions similar to Opower. The study draws upon 218 behavioral program deployments to project energy savings potential by utility and by state, limiting the potential to what is cost effective and achievable today.
Together, Nate will shed light on:

1. How much US residential energy consumption can be reduced via behavioral interventions, and which behavior changes yield the greatest impact

2. The annual energy and carbon savings that can be achieved using Opower-type programs

3. Methodological approaches for including behavioral savings potential in future potential studies
