INTEGRATIVE DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Featuring: Chris Lotspeich, Celtic Energy

2014-04-24 12.03 Blueprint for Efficiency - Integrative Design Principles for Cost-Effective Energy Efficiency - 04 24 2014 from Ben Butterworth on Vimeo.

In the quest to achieve greater energy efficiency cost-effectively, it can be useful to rearrange our mental furniture and reconsider standard practices and business as usual. This presentation provides an overview of key principles of integrative whole-systems design and operation for high-performance facilities and mechanical systems that can cost less to build and less to operate. Integrative design seeks technical, economic and organizational synergies to achieve low cost of ownership and reduced environmental impacts. Best practice examples demonstrate these principles in action, in both new construction and retrofits ranging from single and multifamily residences to industrial facilities. The presentation uses a humorous format that draws from the presenter’s years of experience working with leading energy efficiency practitioners including Amory Lovins of Rocky Mountain Institute, Lee Eng Lock of Trane Singapore and Peter Rumsey of Point Energy Innovations. Enjoy a brief tour through cutting edge energy practices, and perhaps a chuckle or two.
