Join Rachel Hinchliffe, Program Manager in EDF’s Corporate Partnership program, and John Queenan, Head of Environment and Sustainability at RBS Citizens, as well as a few Yale SOM students to share their experiences through Environmental Defense Fund’s (EDF) Climate Corps fellowship program.
This event is organized in collaboration with the Business and the Environment Club (BATEC) and the Yale Center for Business and the Environment through the generous support of the GE Foundation.
EDF Climate Corps embeds graduate students that have received EDF’s training in energy efficiency technologies, energy pricing and financial models with top-tier companies that need to develop practical, actionable energy efficiency plans. Over the course 10-12 weeks during the summer, fellows have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on leading companies by analyzing energy use and mapping out investments in areas such as lighting, computer equipment, and heating and cooling systems. The program provides high-level work experience, training on energy efficiency best practices, access to experts in the field, and a network of other fellows with different backgrounds tackling similar challenges across America.
Rachel Hinchliffe is a Program Manager in EDF’s Corporate Partnership program. Rachel works with market-leading companies to create environmental improvements that make business sense. She currently manages recruitment efforts for Climate Corps and also works on partnerships in the transportation sector, building on EDF partnership with FedEx Express, as well as the paper and packaging industry. Rachel holds an M.S. from Tufts University’s Agriculture, Food, and Environment program and a B.A. from Bates College. Prior to EDF, Rachel was a research analyst at a consulting firm where she explored industry trends, regulatory policy, and supply chain management in the food, renewable energy, and agribusiness industries.
John Queenan is Head of Environment and Sustainability for the Royal Bank of Scotland in the Americas region, including Citizens Bank and Charter One operations. He leads RBS Americas’ award-winning green building initiatives, integrating environmental considerations into leasing, purchasing, and workplace operational decisions. In addition, he advises executive management on environmental business opportunities, risks and community and colleague engagement. His team’s programs have contributed to RBS Group’s global ranking at the top of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Finance sector, and also among the top 15% of companies (score 76%) as listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). This past summer, John and RBS Citizens hosted an EDF Climate Corps fellow from Yale SOM. Prior to joining RBS, John was an auditor and consultant on sustainability issues to clients that included Citigroup, Disney, Microsoft, Nike, Wal-Mart, and Procter & Gamble. John has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management and Policy from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, School of Management and a Bachelor’s in Science from SUNY Brockport.
